Skip text during spell check

Greetings, I am wondering if there is any way to tell Word (2003) not to check surnames. In scholarly writing, they abound, but can be ignored during a spell check. I think it would be impractical to make exceptions of them all in a given paper. Often they appear within parentheses. Thanks! – Tim

Tim, unfortunately, I know no way to turn off a search for a particular type of entity, such as surnames. You mention the impracticality of excluding them from a spell check, but that’s the only way I can think to do so! If you decide to go that route, please check out How to skip text during spell check for step-by-step instructions. If someone knows how to exclude surnames from a spell check with a simple click, please let us know!
