How to insert an Excel comment into multiple cells

How do you insert a comment into an entire row or column, or a range of cells? – Satish

Satish, there’s no built-in method for inserting the same comment into multiple cells. For the record, I don’t think inserting a comment into an entire row or column would be a good idea. However, I can see a user wanting to do so with a range—even a non-contiguous range.

Allen Wyatt has provided the best solution that I know of for this type of task: Adding a Comment to Multiple Cells. You’ll learn how to copy a comment, and he provides a macro that will insert a comment into multiple cells.

Thanks to Allen Wyatt and to David McAfee for sharing it with me, as a possible solution to your question.

  1. In Excel, there is no way to insert multiple comments at the same time. You can, however, copy a comment to multiple cells as follows:

    1. Insert your comment in the first cell as you normally would.

    2. Select the first commented cell and right click, choose Copy from the context menu.

    3. Then select the range that you would like to have the same comment. Right click choose Paste Special from the menu, and a Paste Special dialog box will pop out, check Comments from Paste.
