How to save all open workbooks

How do I save all open workbooks with a single stroke, rather than having to save each one separately. — Rick

Rick, you can hold down the Shift key and choose Close All from the File menu, in Excel 2003. This shortcut no longer works in the ribbon versions. Allen Wyatt offers a macro you might consider at http://excel.tips.net/T003307_Saving_All_Open_Workbooks.html. In the ribbon versions, you can quickly add this macro to the Quick Access Toolbar as follows:

  1. From the QAT dropdown, choose More Commands.
  2. From the Choose Commands From dropdown, choose Macros.
  3. Highlight the macro and click Add.
  4. Click OK to close the dialog and return to your sheet.

When you want to close all the open sheets, just click the macro on the QAT!
